BANGALORE: Southern Command of the Indian Army has geared up for the Investiture Ceremony at Bangalore on January 15 2012, on the occasion of Army Day at Basantar Auditorium, Madras Engineer Group and Centre under the aegis of Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area. A total of fifty seven awards in the category of gallantry and distinguished service will be bestowed upon the recipients by Lt Gen AK Singh, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Southern Command. Out of these fifty seven awards, twenty seven awards will be for acts of gallantry and thirty awards for distinguished service. The awards include two Yudh Seva Medals, twenty seven Sena Medals (Gallantry), seven Sena Medals (Distinguished service) and twenty one Vishisht Seva Medals.The Yudh Seva Medal is awarded for distinguished service of a high order during war, conflict or hostilities whereas the Sena Medal is awarded to individual acts of courage or exceptional devotion to duty. Vishisht Seva Medal is awarded for distinguished service of a high order. A cultural show will also be organised on January 14 2012 at ASC Centre & College in honour of the awardees.
