AP: 16 villagers detained for hacking forest officer to death

Hyderabad: Sixteen villagers have been detained for allegedly hacking a forest officer to death in Andhra Pradesh. The officer was conducting a raid in the village to prevent the encroachment of forest land.

He was allegedly assaulted with sticks and an axe by the villagers. The officer died on the spot.

Seven other officials were injured in the incident. Police say that prima facie the attack was unplanned and spontaneous.
