THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Pangode Military Station commemorated the 12th Anniversary of the Kargil Operations here on Monday with the traditional military ceremonies.A press statement here said that the solemn ceremony of paying homage to the brave men of the Indian Armed Forces who laid down their lives for the country commenced with Lieutenant General P Sreekumar (Retd) laying a wreath at the War Memorial on behalf of the veterans. Brigadier Pradeep Narayanan, the Station Commander and Senior officers of the Military Station also laid wreaths. The ceremonies were witnessed by all the Men and Officers of Pangode Military Station with the Army band in attendance. Another function organised at the Cariappa Auditorium at Pangode Military Station was attended by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Shashi Tharoor MP, K Muraleedharan MLA, Major General Y C Tharakan and Premachandra, Chief General Manager, BSNL among others. Speaking at the occasion, Pradeep Narayanan exhorted the administration to ensure steps for the welfare of war widows and ex-servicemen. Chandy stated that orders have already been issued to the District Collectors of six districts to procure land for starting Sainik Centres and Polyclinics. (Sainik Centres at Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad, Wayanad & Kannur and Polyclincs at Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Kozhikode, Wayanad & Kasargod), the press statement said.
