Chandigarh: Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor on Sunday campaigned for BJP Chandigarh candidate Kirron Kher and said he had not come to the city on anybody's invitation but to support her a "friend".
"In politics generally, it has been observed that while people say one thing but they mean something else," Kapoor said. He also said that he has always been impressed by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, "And even today, his
words ring in my ears".
To a query on joining politics anytime in future, he ruled out any such possibility. Kirron Kher's husband and Bollywood actor Anupam Kher while seeking people's support for her wife, said he had discovered her as a strong woman.
"Today, I am here, being her husband for past 28 years and her friend for past 40 years," he said. Though he was seeking support for Kirron, he clarified
that he was not connected with any political outfit and "will always stand against corruption".
He said he had joined Anna Hazare's movement against corruption two years ago as he had wanted to raise voice against the menace of corruption. Kirron said she wanted to contest the Lok Sabha elections on "issues" and keep "glamour at bay".
"I can bring several Bollywood films stars for my support here but I want to fight polls on the basis of issues concerning people. And I also want to keep glamour at bay from political campaign," she said.
Kirron is pitted against Congress candidate and former Railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal and Aam Aadmi Party candidate Gul Panag.
Meanwhile, BJP Chandigarh unit President Sanjay Tandon on Sunday claimed he had been receiving requests from members of Congress, AAP and BSP who wanted to join BJP.
