Kolkata: The Army on Saturday said that it is always alert and sensitive to all threats and has taken adequate steps in the wake of the arrest of an army personnel from Siliguri last week in connection with the ISI-linked espionage racket.
"We are aware of the kind of activities that have taken place in the Eastern Command. We are alert all the time and adequate measures are regularly taken on the ground. We are alert, conscious and sensitised to all the threats that can take place," Major General (General Staff) A S Bedi of the Army's Eastern Command told reporters here.
He was asked about the security threats following last week's arrest of Farid Khan, an army hawaldar, who allegedly shared secret information with suspected ISI intelligence operatives.
Pointing out that such incidents have also been reported earlier, Bedi said that there is a regular exchange of information with the police on such cases.
Another senior Army officer said sepoys do not have access to any sensitive information. "The things they know are already in the public domain or are not sensitive enough to harm us," he said.
