New Delhi: National carrier Air India on Monday said it has rolled out an additional baggage scheme for students travelling to the US, UK, Europe and Canada for higher studies for a limited period.
Under the scheme, 'Maharaja Scholars' such student travellers would be allowed to carry an extra piece of luggage weighing up to 23 kg, in addition to the current check-in baggage allowance of one piece of luggage for the UK and Europe, or two pieces of luggage for destinations in the US and Canada, Air India said in a release.
Maharaja Scholars offer is available for students travelling from India to international destinations on a valid student/student exchange visa, it said.
Present scenario suggests that one in every five international students in the world is from China or India, it said adding countries like Sweden, Denmark, Italy, and Ireland are increasingly becoming a preferred choice by Indian students due to various factors including cheaper education and easy availability of part time jobs.
Maharaja Scholars is specifically designed to cater to the students travelling to USA, UK, Europe, Russia, Japan and Australia, it said.
The offer allows an extra piece of luggage weighing up to 23 kg, in addition to the current checked baggage allowance of one piece of luggage for the UK and Europe, or two pieces of luggage for destinations in the US and Canada.
Besides, it also offer students waiver of cancellation charges if proof of visa rejection is provided for students.
Students who are flying to any city in US, Australia or Europe need not take a transit visa as Air India operates direct flight to these places, the airline said.
