THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The agitation by a group of students and parents of the P A Aziz College of Engineering and Technology (PAACET) at Karakulam turned violent and resulted in police lathicharge on Monday.The students and parents were agitating against the delay in obtaining recognition for the Electronics and Communication stream, in which 120 students are studying, at the college. According to sources, the protest had been going on for the past few days as the future of the 120 students are at stake due to alleged lethargic attitude of the college management in obtaining recognition. The college authorities had also squeezed in 120 students even though the actual seats allocated were only 60. Despite holding meetings, the management could not resolve the issue, which led to the agitation taking an ugly turn. The college suffered vast damage in the attack. ENS Police personnel from Nedumangad who rushed to the college and resorted to lathicharge to disperse the mob. A case was also registered in the name of people who could be identified at sight in this connection.
