New Delhi: Andre Agassi suffered a disappointing 6-4, 6-3 second-round defeat to Italian qualifier Andrea Stoppini at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic and is now preparing to say goodbye to tennis after next month's US Open.
All set to say goodbye to professional tennis after 20 years, Andre Agassi is on his farewell tour. Although he lost at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic on Tuesday, he got a standing ovation from the crowd.
Agassi is now preparing for the US Open, which begins in four weeks. The season's final Grand Slam will be his farewell to tennis.
"I think anything can happen, that's why its sports right? If this years results are any indication its not likely, but if last years US Open is any indicator it can change really quickly, so I am going into this with all of me and I don't expect to lie down for anyone. You know it's my last match and I am going to win or somebody is going to have to beat me and that's fair enough," says he.
Eight grand slam titles have changed him from being a rebel to a legend.
He is one of only five players to have won all four Grand Slam events and is considered to be one of the most complete talents the game has ever seen.
So is he looking forward to giving it all up?
"I am ready to go now and this is something I have done for 20 years and the US Open is what I am working towards to end it all," says Agassi.
Agassi plans to spend some quality time with his other star half, Steffi Graf and their two kids. The man who holds 60 tennis titles in all is hoping to finish with yet another victory at Flushing Meadow.
