Abhay Deol takes on a 'giant record label', sports a black eye in protest at Screen Awards

New Delhi: In a first, an actor from the Hindi film industry has spoken up against the archaic rules of recording labels that refuse to give singers any royalty. On Tuesday night, actor Abhay Deol posted a statement on his facebook profile stating that how he has taken up the issue with " the giant record label of the music industry" for not releasing the music of his forthcoming film 'One By Two' yet. The record label in question is T-Series and the actor is also producer of the film.

Abhay also stated that how the record label "expect musicians to sign a contract with a clause that is against the law," and force producers like him to insist singers to sign the contract when they agree to do playback for the film.

Advising singers not to succumb, Abhay also urged other actors and filmmakers to take a stand on the issue. The actor also went a step ahead and sported a black eye at the Screen Awards on Tuesday night.

Later, the actor posted pictures of himself with the black eye and wrote:

"My Black Eye.

So last night I went to the Screen awards sporting a black eye. It was my way of saying visually (and symbolically) that my film's marketing has taken a hit.

The make up was faded by the time I took these pictures. But my resolve has not. I got so many messages from the music fraternity thanking me. I saw so many people write on twitter that they support me.

Thank you all for the encouragement! We have a long way to go to bring power to the people.

WE SHALL OVERCOME!"
