CHENNAI: If you are someone who knows just a tad bit about the farming practices, a visit to the Chettinad Vidyashram on Friday would have been an enlightening experience. Put up as a part of their science expo, the exhibits offered a comprehensive account of both the historical evolution and latest techniques in the field of agriculture and provided a glimpse of what is in store for the future.Aditya, explaining his model on the drip irrigation process that is getting popular across the country, said that the methodology had helped, especially in rain-fed areas, to reduce the wastage of water by over 50 per cent. “The farmer has total control over the amount of water that goes to each plant, thereby improving the yield and profits,” he added.Other such techniques elaborated were terrace farming and lift irrigation. School authorities said that over 1,000 different exhibits covering a wide range of subjects were part of the expo.
