7/11: US asks for evidence of Pak role
Boucher said under the present circumstances the focus must be on the "evidence".

New Delhi/Washington: The United States administration says it has not seen any evidence to suggest that Pakistan or Pakistan-based groups were involved in July 11 Mumbai blasts that killed nearly 200 people and injured at least 700.

Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher said on Tuesday that US’ message was to find evidence those responsible for the attack and then consider the possible solutions.

Terming the Mumbai blasts as a "horrible tragedy", Boucher said under the present circumstances the focus must be on the "evidence".

“I think our message to everybody is let’s find the evidence, let’s find out who is responsible and then let’s move together to stop such organisations and the support those organisations are getting. Let's make sure people can’t carry out such acts in the future,” he said.

Boucher also said the US wants India and Pakistan to cooperate on the issue of combating terrorism in the region and to continue their dialogue.

Asked if the US believed Pakistan was not doing enough to curb terrorism along the Afghan border, Boucher said, “Terrorism is a tough (problem) and we are all in that fight together.”

Ironically, the Bush administration itself is facing flak from the international community for attacking Iraq for its alleged possession of Weapons of Mass Destruction.
