Three months after the Kollam temple fire tragedy that killed over 100 people and injured close to 380, all 41 accused in the case have been given bail on Monday.
All the accused in the Puttingal temple fire were in custody for almost two months over the tragedy that occurred due the unauthorised display of fireworks that was conducted without proper permission.
The explosions had ripped chunks of concrete and plaster from the temple and nearby buildings which fell on people killing some on the spot and wounding many others.
In May the court had denied bail to all the accused after the judge reportedly observed that Kerala had developed a very unhealthy cultural practice of glamorising any religious festival or ceremony by fireworks and elephant parade.
On June 22, the court had expressed dissatisfaction at the status report on the probe and had orally observed that the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) be made applicable to the case as the use of explosives without proper permission had created fear in the mind of the public.
