THANJAVUR/TIRUVARUR: Burglars decamped with about 350 sovereigns of gold jewellery, apart from other valuables, in two separate incidents in Pattukottai and Tiruvarur on Friday night.As much as 130-sovereigns of gold and 5 kgs of silver articles worth Rs 7.75 lakh were stolen from the house of one Kannan at Aranthangi Road, Mudipoondar Nagar near Pattukkottai on Friday night.  Kannan is the owner of Vinayaka Chit Funds.According to police, Kannan and his family were away at Peravurani at the time of the incident. On Friday night, burglars entered the house through the backdoor, broke open a steel almirah and took away the valuables.Kannan, on receiving information, reached Pattukkottai and filed a complaint.Superintendent of Police Kapil Kumar C Sarathkar, DSP T Ashok Kumar and other officials reached the spot. Forensic officials lifted finger prints. A sniffer dog was brought from Thanjavur, to trace the culprits. Further investigation is on.In Tiruvarur, burglars broke open the backdoor of the house of a doctor on Friday and decamped with 220 sovereigns of gold chains, 2 kgs of silver articles and Rs 30 lakh.According to Perugavazhandhan police, Vijayakumar, a native of Siddhamalli, runs a private clinic near Muthupettai.  The doctor was in Tiruchy when the incident took place.  A neighbour, Raja, who noticed the door broken open, informed Vijayakumar, who, in turn lodged a police complaint. A team led by SP (incharge) Santoshkumar visited the spot and conducted inquiries.It is suspected that the thieves were watching the doctor’s whereabouts before burgling the house.
