Kolkata: Three cab drivers have been arrested in connection with the alleged gangrape of a 24-year-old woman at Salt Lake's Sector-V. The incident allegedly took place in a moving vehicle late on Sunday night. One of the accused is still at large.
According to police reports, all cab drivers are in the IT/BPO companies. All of the drivers confessed to their crime. One person is still absconding and police claim they arrest him soon. The three will be produced in court on Wednesday.
The woman who was allegedly raped used to perform at a bar on VIP Road. She claims she had gone to a multiplex at Sector-V to meet a friend and was waiting on the road for transport when a man approached her and asked her if she was looking for someone.
The woman then asked for direction to an address, police said.
However, the man called up someone and an SUV with three to four persons inside came to the spot.
When she got into the car, she claimed that her co-passengers started to assault her. They then allegedly raped her inside the moving vehicle.
She was dumped on the roadside in an unconscious state at Sector-1 in Salt lake where a mobile police unit spotted her in the early hours on Monday after a taxi driver drew the team’s attention, officials of the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate said.
An FIR was lodged with the Electronic Complex Police Station under Salt Lake Sector-V against four to five unknown persons on the basis of her statement.
