New Delhi: Cooling his heels in Tihar jail since February this year after his arrest for his alleged role in the 2G spectrum case, former Telecom Secretary Siddharth Behura on Friday approached the Delhi High Court to know the fate of his bail plea on which the court had reserved its order over a week ago.
Appearing for Behura, counsel Aman Lekhi pointed out to Justice VK Shali that his client has been languishing in the jail for nearly 10 months while all other co-accused, who sought bail, have been granted it and are out of jail.
Justice Shali, however, assured Behura's counsel that he would pronounce his verdict on his bail plea at the earliest. The judge added he has been unable to write the order due to paucity of time.
The court had reserved its order on Behura's bail plea on December 1 while freeing DMK MP Kanimozhi and four others on bail the same day.
All six had come to the high court together challenging the trial court's November 3 order, which had dismissed their bail pleas.
The high court had refrained from granting bail to Behura along with other co-accused in the case as CBI had opposed his plea, contending he was a public servant and his case differed from those of others.
