BANGALORE: Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje held a meeting with 38 sugar factories to discuss power purchase from co-generating units. The state government is looking to purchase as much as 250 MW of additional power from Sugar Cogeneration units.“About 150 MW is already being supplied by them to us through various old Power Purchase Agreements (PPA’s). We are looking to purchase 250 MW more from various units and will try to ensure that all available power comes to us at a low price,” Shobha said while speaking to mediapersons.The old PPA’s range between Rs 2.80 and Rs 4 per unit.The co-generation companies reportedly are asking for all power to be supplied at Rs 6.50 in spite of their previous arrangements.Upon being asked if the government will impose Section 11 which makes it mandatory for all power generators to supply power to the state, Shobha said that there will be one more round of meeting after 3-4 days.
