2 headload workers die in mishap

NEDUMANAGAD: In a tragic incident that occurred near the Botanical Garden, Palode, near here, two headload workers sitting atop a lorry carrying timber were crushed to death when the vehicle lost control and fell into a rivulet.The deceased have been identified as Subhash alias Saji George 25 and Jojo, 25. According to Palode police, the incident occurred around 6.45 pm. The lorry was carrying timber from Kakkanikkara.When the vehicle reached a steep slope, the vehicle which could not carry the huge load began moving down the slope and turned upside down before falling into a stream. Five loading workers were sitting atop the vehicle while four were in the cabin. As the vehicle fell on its back, two of the workers were crushed beneath the vehicle.  Though the public dragged out the two from underneath the vehicle, they could not be saved.  Three others who received injuries were shifted to Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram. Their condition is said to be stable.
