A farmer from Andhra Pradesh, Bhagavanthaiah, is gaining widespread attention for his innovative approach to safeguarding his crops from the threat of wild animals. Located near Bestavaripeta in the Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh, Bhagavanthaiah operates the Venkateswara Nursery and has been applying a unique strategy to protect his nursery from encroaching wildlife.
Rather than relying on conventional methods, Bhagavanthaiah has adopted a distinct approach by using images of famous South Indian actresses, such as Anushka Shetty, Rakul Preet, and Pooja Hegde. He has covered his nursery with these celebrity pictures. The idea behind this unconventional move is to divert the attention of onlookers, thereby deterring them from interfering with his nursery.
Speaking to the News18 team, Bhagavanthaiah revealed that his innovative approach has helped him save a substantial amount on his electricity bills. He mentioned, “We are planning to save Rs 2,000 per month.” The images of the South Indian actresses appear to captivate the curiosity of passersby, ultimately serving as a form of protection for his crops.
Bhagavanthaiah pointed out that his primary intention behind using these celebrity images is to act as a distraction, dissuading potential intruders and safeguarding his nursery from harm. Remarkably, his unique method has garnered attention not only locally but also from fellow farmers who are now adopting a similar strategy. Bhagavanthaiah stated, “There is no need to spend even a rupee on food, but farmers cultivating crops in Podili and Child Katla areas of the district are also adopting the same method.”
Similarly, another farmer from Uttar Pradesh, facing a different challenge, resorted to a distinct approach to protect his crops. A resident of Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, this farmer dressed up as a bear to deter monkeys from damaging his sugarcane crops. More than 40 monkeys were wreaking havoc in the area, and despite notifying the authorities, no action was taken. Consequently, the farmers took matters into their own hands, contributing money to purchase bear costumes collectively for Rs 4,000. Gajendra Singh, one of the farmers, noted that the monkeys posed a significant threat to their crops which prompted this creative solution.
