In this guide, we’ll show you how you can make your very own CBD bath salt at home, so you can soak up all the benefits and feel (and smell) amazing.
Making CBD Bath Salts
Mix the Epsom salts and baking soda together in a bowl. Use 2 cups (400 g) of Epsom salts and ¼ cup (50 g) of baking soda. This is the base of your bath salt, so make sure everything is evenly distributed. To give your bath salts more variety, use 1 cup (200 g) of Epsom salt and 1 cup (200 g) of Himalayan sea salt.
Add the CBD oil to the salt mixture and stir. Make sure the oil you put in your bath salts is from a reputable brand. Opt for organic products that are certified by US Hemp Authority, who regulate the distribution and production of hemp and CBD products.
Add drops of your desired essential oils. CBD oil can help manage pain, sore muscles, and anxiety, and Epsom salt relieves stress and inflammation. Pairing this dynamic bath salt duo with essential oils, which are proven to reduce stress and physical pains, will have you soaking up all the holistic health benefits.
Transfer the salts into a container. This recipe creates more than one bath’s worth of CBD bath salts, so you will have plenty more relaxing baths to come! Store your salts in an airtight container or a mason jar in a dry place for up to 1 year.
Choosing an Essential Oil
Best oil for aiding sleep: lavender. Lavender is commonly used to ease stress and calm anxieties. The soothing and serene scent has an almost sedative property, making it the perfect addition to a relaxing bath after a long day.
Best oils to relieve stress: lemon and lavender. The uplifting citrus scent of lemon calms anxieties, while the soothing properties of lavender lower blood pressure. These two oils alone or combined can make your CBD bath even more relaxing.
Best oil to soothe sore muscles: wintergreen. Wintergreen’s refreshing scent and warming properties help relax tight and painful muscles. Pair this essential oil with a few drops of cooling peppermint or use it on its own to unwind after a long day.
Best oils to calm swelling: frankincense and rosemary. Frankincense has a woody, spicy scent that pairs well with rosemary’s earthiness. Together, these oils uplift your mood and help inflammation.
Avoid oils that are prone to allergic reactions. Cinnamon, oregano, and bergamot are known to cause skin irritation. Keeping these oils out of your CBD bath salts will help you avoid essential oil burns.
Using CBD Bath Salts
Add ½ cup (100 g) of salts to a running bath and mix. Putting your salts in the tub before it’s done filling up will help everything dissolve before you step in. If you want a more fragrant bath, add the salts right before going in. Essential oils can evaporate with time and could lose some of their smell if you add them while the bath’s running.
Soak in the CBD bath for at least 20 minutes. This will give your body plenty of time to soak, so you feel refreshed, relaxed, and revitalized.
Try to use your salts within 1 to 2 months of making them. Bath salts can last up to 1 year when stored in an airtight container, but the oils can start to clump after a while. Laying out clumped bath salts on a piece of parchment and popping them into a 200 °F (93 °C) oven for 15 to 20 minutes will help dry them out. However, this may lessen the effects of the CBD oil.
