Dominique Pelicot, the French septuagenarian who is being tried in court for inviting over 72 strangers to rape his drugged wife over a course of 10 years, took part in her gangrape and recorded himself while doing so, a French court heard.
Gisele Pelicot, his wife, now 72, who waived her right to have the trial held in private and remain anonymous, was defiled by her own husband with three other men in one single incident.
The court heard that Dominique would act play the role of director when strangers from all walks of life would rape his wife after he drugged her with powerful tranquillisers.
He saved the videos detailing her abuse under file names such as ‘Her Rapists’, ‘Abuse’ and ‘My Slut’.
Prosecutors told the court that instances of abuse sometimes lasted as long as six hours while Gisele could be heard snoring and sleeping soundly.
The case would not have come to fore if Dominique had not been arrested for taking photographs up the skirts of female supermarket shoppers.
Commissioner Jerome Bosse Platiere said that France’s most harrowing rape case initially started as a routine voyeurism investigation.
However, the direction shifted dramatically when an SD card was discovered containing a photo of the unconscious victim, naked and wearing a garter belt.
Upon searching the Pelicots’ retirement chalet in the village of Mazan, police found approximately 20,000 images documenting the wife being assaulted by 72 different men.
The rapes happened between 2011 and 2020.
Pelicot, 71, along with 50 men from various backgrounds whom he recruited through a website for voyeurs and swingers, stands accused of aggravated rape.
The other 22 men have not been identified and most likely will not be charged.
Police were forced to show Gisele the abuse she was subjected to over the last 10 years as they needed to confirm that she was unconscious and did not consent.
“He disgusts me. I feel dirty, defiled, betrayed. It was a tsunami. I was hit by a high-speed train,” Gisele said of Dominique, with whom she had three children.
One of the men accused of raping her is reportedly on the run, while 49 others were present in the courtroom. Fourteen have pleaded guilty, but Judge Roger Arata stated that 35 denied the charges. One man said he was like a ‘robot’ being commanded by the husband.
The court also heard that Dominique filmed his daughter in a compromising position as well in 2013.
He saved the clips and photos under the filename ‘My Daughter Naked’.
The court also heard that Dominique has attempted to portray his wife as the sex-obsessed party in their marriage and told the men that they were participating in a kinky sex game with consenting adults.
