The Master Sword can be obtained in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom within the first 10 hours if you're truly determined. If you play casually, you can easily unlock this weapon after completing certain main quests or milestones. Here's how and where to get the Master Sword in Tears of the Kingdom.

Things You Should Know
  • To get the Master Sword in TOTK, find and mount the Light Dragon that flies around Hyrule.
  • You must have at least 2 stamina wheels and all 12 Dragon's Tears OR "Trail of the Master Sword" main quest completed.
  • The Master Sword can't break, but you will need 10 real-life minutes to recharge it once the energy depletes.

Master Sword Location

The Master Sword can be found on the Light Dragon's head. The Light Dragon is a new entity that appears in Tears of the Kingdom alongside the other dragons from Breath of the Wild. The Light Dragon travels in a winding loop through all of Hyrule. To mount the Light Dragon, climb the region's highest point or use the glider from a floating island. The Light Dragon travels fast; you'll need to time your jump strategically to land. When you land, you can find the Master Sword on the Light Dragon's head. Make sure you meet the requirements before attempting to pull it out.

Master Sword Requirements

To get the Master Sword, you must meet a few prerequisites. These milestones can take quite a bit of exploring, so don't expect to get the Master Sword after only a few hours of gameplay. The requirements are as follows: Two (2) full stamina wheels (20 Light of Blessings from Shrines) Complete one: Complete main quests: Guidance from Ages Past, Find the Fifth Sage, Trail of the Master Sword, and then Recovering the Hero's Sword Collect all 12 Dragon's Tears scattered across the map

Master Sword Stats

The Master Sword doesn't break, but it needs recharging. After the Master Sword's energy has been used up, you'll see a prompt. The sword will take 10 real-life minutes of active gameplay to fully recharge for its next use. The timer can be checked in the inventory menu. The Master Sword's base damage is 30. You can use the Fuse ability to increase the Master Sword's power and durability.
