Panaji: Pune FC playmaker Douhou Pierre has signed on the dotted line for Salgaocar FC for the 2014-15 season.
Having spent the past five seasons in India, the Ivorian has been a vital cog and played a stellar role at the heart of Pune's midfield.
He will re-unite with coach Derrick Pereira under whom he played during the latter's four-year stint at Pune FC.
Douhou coincidentally won the Durand Cup with the now defunct Mahindra United in 2008 during his first season in India under the same coach.
The Greens finished a very respectable third in a highly competitive 2013-14 I-League.
At the press conference on the final match day, Derrick did suggest at certain re-enforcements being made to the side during the break with an emphasis on strengthening the midfield.
"We are happy to have secured Douhou's signature for the upcoming season and welcome him to Salgaocar FC. His inclusion shall add a lot of stability to the team, especially in midfield where a lot of games are decided," said club general secretary Raj Gomes in a statement issued on Thursday.
"Douhou is a strong physical player and his experience shall hold us in good stead as the I-League gets increasingly competitive," coach Derrick Pereira said about his latest signing.
With Salgaocar retaining their core squad for the upcoming season, Douhou's inclusion does make the Greens a formidable force to reckon with in the 2014-15 I-League season.
