Court blocks Real Madrid's plans to remodel Bernabeu stadium
A Spanish court has annulled permission granted by the Madrid city government to allow Real Madrid to remodel its Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

Madrid: Real Madrid says a Spanish court has annulled permission granted by the Madrid city government to allow the club to remodel its Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

The European champions said in a statement that "Real Madrid will work together with the city hall and regional Madrid governments to correct the necessary aspects so that the remodeling of the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium is viable."

The court's decision annulled permission given by Madrid's regional government in 2012. Last year a court had suspended Madrid's work plans on its stadium while ruling on a petition made by environmental group Ecologistas en Accion.

Madrid's plans for its stadium are also under investigation by the European Union for possible illegal state aid in form of a property swap.
