Kolkata: In a setback for struggling Atletico de Kolkata, Spanish midfielder Jofre Mateu Gonzalez has been ruled out of their penultimate league clash against Mumbai City FC after picking up a ligament injury.
"He's a very important player and he has contributed a lot. We will miss him in the next game," Atletico de Kolkata captain Luis Garcia said on the eve of their departure for Mumbai for their Sunday's clash.
Jofre has been given one match rest. But to their advantage, Garica, who also had some injury niggles, said he's fully fit and looking forward.
"I'm quite well. I feel very good. Right now the most important thing is not to get injured. The support staff is taking care of that."
ATK will be eyeing three points in Mumbai to seal a semis berth against a bottom-placed MCFC.
But ATK are also struggling with just one win from eight matches as their ace Ethiopian striker Fikru has been rendered ineffective.
Giving his full support for the struggling Fikru, the former Liverpool star said: "We will be worried if we don't create chances. But in every game we're creating like four-five chances. The only way to score goals is by creating chances. Hopefully we can convert some of them. Fikru is working."
