NEET-UG 2024: Government Sources Say 2,321 Candidates Scored 700 Or More
In the past, the majority of the NEET top scores have come from places that are well-known for their coaching centres

In the midst of the ongoing NEET UG 2024 paper leak controversy, recent data has emerged highlighting an encouraging trend in the distribution of top scorers. According to a post on “X” by ANI, government sources have revealed that the exam, which saw participation from 23.33 lakh students, had 2,321 candidates scoring 700 or more marks. These top-performing students were distributed across 1,404 exam centres located in 276 cities and 25 states/UTs, including international locations.

“In NEET 2024, a total of 23.33 lakh students appeared. Of them, 2321 students got 700 or more marks. These students were spread across 1,404 centres in the entire country and abroad. These 1404 centres were again spread across 276 cities and 25 States/UTs. Such a large spread shows that many candidates who were not from the traditional tuition hubs were also able to come in the toppers list in NEET 2024: Government Sources,” read the post.

This extensive regional dispersion of high scorers suggests a change in the conventional concentration of top achievers in established educational hubs. In the past, the majority of the NEET top scores have come from places that are well-known for their coaching centres. However, the 2024 results indicate a democratisation of superior performance with students from lesser-known locations emerging as top candidates.

The event involving the NEET UG 2024 paper leak has clouded the examination process and raised questions about its integrity and impartiality.

The ramifications of this controversy are substantial. NEET is a critical exam for students hoping to attend medical schools, and shortcomings in its integrity could damage public faith in the educational system. As the Supreme Court and CBI continue to examine the paper leak, the government and examination authorities face pressure to tighten safety protocols and provide a fair and transparent testing environment in future tests.

Meanwhile, the NTA made public the centre and city-specific results for the medical entrance test National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG), which is being investigated for a paper leak and suspected irregularities. The results, which were previously disclosed on June 4, are being released in this manner in response to a Supreme Court ruling, which is hearing a series of petitions regarding alleged inconsistencies in the exam’s administration.
