The Civil Services Examination of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is considered as one of the toughest examinations in the world. Aspirants need to study rigorously in order to crack this examination with utmost dedication and focus. Inspiring stories of students can be heard about their journey to crack the examination. Another such story is that of Shena Agarwal. She decided to break all stereotypes and take the step of joining the government services after her MBBS degree. Shena Agarwal was born and brought up in Yamunanagar in Haryana. She topped the UPSC Civil Service Examination in the year 2011 in her third attempt. From her childhood, Shena was good at studies. She also scored 95 percent in her CBSE class 10 examination and in class 12 she scored 92 percent. She topped the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Pre-Medical Test in 2004.
Shena Agarwal graduated from AIIMS, New Delhi in 2009. Shena was motivated to become an IAS, as she wanted to bring a positive change in the living conditions of rural areas.
Her family is full of doctors. Her father, C K Agarwal and mother Pinky Agarwal are both dentists. Shena started preparing for IAS after completing her MBBS from AIIMS, New Delhi in 2009. Shena was preparing for her third attempt in IAS and was ready to start training for IRS in Nagpur. In her third attempt, she not only cleared the exam but also secured first rank. In UPSC CSE 2010, Shena cleared the exam and got an all-India rank of 305. With her dedication, Shena Agarwal cleared the exam with AIR 1 in UPSC CSE 2011.
IAS Shena Agrawal has currently been given the charge of special secretary, social security and women and child development, while her husband Sanyam Aggarwal has been posted as special secretary, agriculture and farmers welfare. Earlier, she had worked as Additional Commissioner of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation in 2015 and Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of the district in the year 2019.
