We are all aware of the rising cases of student suicides in Kota, Rajasthan. District Collector Dr Ravinder Goswami on Tuesday wrote separate letters to NEET and JEE aspirants. NEET is the full form of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, while JEE is used for Joint Entrance Examination. The district collector has motivated the aspirants and parents with this letter, where he spoke about his own failure in the pre-medical test many years ago. The DC started the letter with an encouraging couplet from Indian poet Sahir Ludhianvi. Dr Ravinder began his address to the students with ‘Dear children’. He noted that failures allow one to surmount the mistakes committed in life and turn them into accomplishments.
He wrote in the letter, “We can only do hard work and it is up to God to bestow us with fruit. So, if he makes us succeed, it is okay. But if he makes us fail, it means he is charting another path for us.” He referred to the students as great children of great India and said that “only one exam cannot be taken as the ultimate test to achieve your goal.” He ended the letter by saying that if one walks, he or she tends to fall. According to him, however, it is meaningful only if one gets up after falling and moves ahead towards achieving the goal.
In another letter written to the parents, the DC lauded their commitment to their wards in providing them with all the comforts. He also recognised that their happiness lies in the happiness of their children. Dr Ravinder, however, noted that the problem arises when the happiness of children is associated with the marks they obtain in the exams. Dr Ravinder asked the parents if one becomes successful only by passing an exam and added, “No”. He reminded the parents that their child may be interested in some other field.
He urged the parents to give their wards a chance to work on themselves, as his parents did to him when he had returned from Kota. He asked the parents to speak to their wards regularly, listen to them and make them believe they are the most precious ones.
