All You Need To Know About UGC's New 4-Year UG Honours With Research Course
UGC’s new 4-year undergraduate course offers multiple entries and exit points in the academic programme.

The new academic session in colleges across India is set to commence in August. Currently, the students are busy with their admissions process. This year, the University Grant Commission (UGC) has also asked universities to offer four-year UG programmes as per the Choice Based Credit System. The commission has also launched UG honours with research courses.

UGC’s new 4-year undergraduate course offers multiple entries and exit points in the academic programme. Students who decide to leave their studies after the first year and have secured 40 credits or more, will be given a UG certificate. Further, those who do a vocational course of four credits during the summer vacation will have the opportunity to complete their studies by taking admission to the degree programme again within three years. They will have a maximum of seven years to complete the degree programme.

Further, if someone quits their studies after the second year and has an 80 credit score, they will be offered a UG diploma. Those who decide to leave the UG programme after the third year and have a score of 120 credits, will get a three-year UG degree.

Students, who complete their UG course in a major discipline with a credit score of 160, will be awarded a four-year UG Honours degree.

UG Degree (Honours with research)

During a 4-year UG course, students who score more than 75 per cent marks in their first six semesters and want to do research at the undergraduate level will have the option to choose a research stream in the fourth year. Students will be able to do a research project under the guidance of a faculty member of the college or university.

As per the UGC guidelines, students who drop out of the course can rejoin and complete their degree. For readmission, they will have two summer vocational courses of four credits.
