'Will Celebrate Only After Winning The Final': Shahbaz Ahmed, Abhishek Sharma a Step Away From Living The 'Dream'

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) beat Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 36 runs in Qualifier 2 in Chennai on Friday to book their place in the IPL 2024 final against Kolkata Knight Riders at MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Shahbaz Ahmed starred with three wickets after coming in as a Impact Sub and scoring crucial runs down the order.

Shahbaz, adjudged the player of the match, said that SRH skipper Pat Cummins and coach Daniel Vettori told him he has a role to play in the match despite not being named in the playing XI.

“The captain and coach told me depending on the situation we will use you, my role was to bat lower down the order and they said if we collapse we will send you,” Shahbaz said.

Even though the allrounder was happy with his performance, he is not ready to celebrate yet.

“I’m feeling proud at having got the Man of the Match in such a game. We will celebrate only after winning the final, tonight we will just relax,” he said.

Abhishek Sharma, who has been lightning up the IPL 2024 with his bat at the top of the order, pitched in with two wickets.

“To be honest I didn’t know it would be this match (where I would bowl all 4 overs), but I was ready. I have been working on my bowling. I have been batting well in the last two years but it was my bowling that I had to work on and I did it with my dad,” Abhishek said after the match.

“It (the pitch) was quicker when we were batting and it started to turn in the second innings, Patty used the spinners well. It was the pressure I have put in all the (practice) sessions that he (Cummins) gave me bowling today,” he added.

Abhishek is looking forward to the IPL 2024 final, saying: “It was one of my dreams to play in the IPL final and it is coming true.”
