'Waqar, Wasim Left a Legacy Behind but This Team...': Ex-IND Star Feels Pakistan 'Didn't Deserve' a Super 8 Berth

Pakistan’s debacle in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 has drawn criticism from different corners of the world. Under Babar Azam’s leadership, the team was stunned by the USA in its campaign opener and then India outsmarted them in what was their second consecutive defeat in the tournament. With a win against Canada, they hoped that other match results to go their way but a washed-out game, between the USA and Ireland, put them on the list of eliminated teams.

The Pakistani cricket fraternity has already launched a scathing attack on Babar, demanding a complete makeover of the team. Meanwhile, former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh analyzed Pakistan’s campaign in the ongoing tournament and observed that the men in green didn’t play to win.

“They had their fate in their hands. The way they have played so far, they didn’t deserve to qualify for the Super 8. On the contrary, USA have played brilliantly and made their presence felt. They played Pakistan twice, in a 20-over game followed by a 6-ball match-up and they beat they thrashed them on both occasions and proved themselves. And mind you, it wasn’t a fluke,” Harbhajan told Star Sports, recalling Pakistan’s campaign opener against the USA.

“They still have a game left against Ireland and we don’t what kind of a Pakistan team will play in that game,” he added.

Pakistan team needs a complete ‘revamp’

Pakistan’s humiliation in the T20 World Cup 2024 has left the legends of the country devastated. The former captains have been raising voices against Babar’s captaincy, calling out for a serious transition in the dressing room.

Harbhajan justified their outburst by stating that the former cricketers, who left a legacy behind, must be feeling about the present condition of the team.

“If we speak about Wasim Bhai, Waqar Younis, Saqlain Mushtaq, Inzamam-ul-Haq… these are the legends of Pakistan. They have left a legacy behind. They often take to social media and speak about the current team. Just because they feel bad about what’s going on. Kahan chhod kar Gaye the team ko aur aaj kahan par hai (Where had we left the team and where has it reached).

“They are getting beaten by Ireland, by USA… teams which don’t have a big name for them. I think, it’s a tough phase and the Pakistan team needs a revamp,” Harbhajan concluded.
