Trent Boult Confirms Game vs PNG Will Be His Last Appearance in T20 World Cups
Trent Boult has confirmed that he will be making his last appearance in the T20 World Cup in New Zealand's game against PNG.

Arguably among the finest pacers, in New Zealand’s cricketing history, Trent Boult has announced that the ongoing T20 World World Cup 2024 will be his last appearance for the Black Caps in the T20 showpiece event.

Boult has cemented his name as one of the elite fast bowlers to represent the New Zealand side across all three formats. He ends his T20 World Cup career having taken 32 wickets to become the second-highest wicket-taker for the country behind Tim Southee in the tournament.

He also finishes the 2024 edition as the Kiwis’ highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 7 wickets coming in the four group-stage fixtures he was part of. New Zealand shockingly suffered an exit in the group stages as their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign ended abruptly.

“Speaking on behalf of myself, this will be my last T20 World Cup. That’s all I have to say,” Boult said at the press conference after New Zealand’s nine-wicket win over Uganda.

The Kiwis registered their first win of the tournament by beating Uganda by 8 wickets and 88 balls to spare. They suffered defeats at the hands of Afghanistan and the West Indies to confirm their premature exit.

“Definitely (it was) not the start we wanted in the tournament. A hard one to take. Just gutted we’re not going any further. But any time you get to represent the country, it’s a proud moment.”

New Zealand which might not be boasting an all-star squad has garnered a reputation for punching above its weight and has been going far in most ICC tournaments. They managed to win the inaugural edition of the World Test Championship beating India at Lords. They also went on to make back-to-back finals in the ODI World Cup in 2015 and 2019 respectively. They also reached the finals of the 2021 T20 World Cup as well.

“There’s a lot of pride in the dressing room and in playing for the country, we’ve had some great records across however many years. Unfortunately, we’ve been off the ball the last couple of weeks and that’s what it takes to not qualify.

“It’s unfortunate, but there’s still some tremendous talent inside that dressing room and coming through the ranks in New Zealand cricket, so we’re a proud nation and we’ll continue to go that way,” he said.
