The Tamil Film Producers Association is gearing up to host an event honouring the achievements of the late M Karunanidhi, the former chief minister of Tamil Nadu. Thalapathy Vijay, a prominent actor in the Tamil film industry, has reportedly received a personal invitation to attend the occasion.
The event, titled Kalaignar 100, is slated to take place on January 6, 2024, at Chepauk in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Film Producers Association has extended invitations not only to Thalapathy Vijay but also to Ajith Kumar, who is currently occupied with a film shoot in Azerbaijan. The association aims to commemorate the late CM M Karunanidhi’s contributions to the film industry and beyond.
The DMK party is set to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of the late Chief Minister, prompting the Tamil Film Producers Association to organize the Kalaignar 100 event. Originally scheduled for December 24, 2023, the event was rescheduled to January 6, 2024, in light of the late politician’s death anniversary and the subsequent backlash. The occasion will honour Karunanidhi’s multifaceted legacy in the film industry and beyond.
Apart from Thalapathy Vijay and Ajith Kumar, the association is extending invitations to other prominent personalities in the industry for this significant event. The occasion aims to pay tribute to Karunanidhi’s impactful contributions and achievements.
Thalapathy Vijay, last seen in Leo, released on October 19, 2023, garnered immense success. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film featured a stellar cast, including Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Sarja, Trisha, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mysskin, and Mansoor Ali Khan, among others. Produced by S S Lalit Kumar and Jagadish Palanisamy under the banner of Seven Screen Studio, the film boasted music by Anirudh Ravichander. With a budget exceeding Rs 300 crore, Leo grossed an impressive Rs 620 crore at the box office, emerging as the fifth highest-grossing Indian film and the highest-grossing Tamil film of the year.
Currently, Thalapathy Vijay is engrossed in his upcoming project, tentatively titled Thalapathy 68, directed by Venkat Prabhu.
