Bangalore: Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal on Monday indicated that a meeting with Norwegian IT Minister Rigmor Aasrud is on the cards, in the backdrop of the Supreme Court order cancelling 122 2G licences.
"As and when the Minister meets me, we shall have a discussion," he told reporters when asked if he would meet Aasrud.
Concerned over the impact of the recent Supreme Court verdict cancelling 122 2G licences, Aasrud has sought an appointment with Sibal to discuss the issue as the government braces itself up for diplomatic parleys.
Norwegian company Telenor holds the majority stake in Uninor, one of the affected parties of the Supreme Court verdict. Telenor holds 67.25 per cent ownership share in in Uninor, a joint venture with real estate major Unitech.
When asked if the Government is open for a "middle-path" on the cancellation of (122 cancelled) licences, in view of the "investor sentiment", he said: "This is something we will have to discuss; not on public television".
"Not on public television", he repeated when persisted with the question.
On DMK President M Karunanidhi's reported statement that it's not right to blame only A Raja (DMK leader and former Telecom Minister vis-a-vis 2G issue), Sibal said he has not blamed anybody.
"I was only indicating the court's verdict...the Supreme Court verdict. DMK is a very precious ally. They are our partners in Government and therefore we have great respect for the DMK. What I was stating was what the court had said and not what I believe," he said.
