Soft drink major rebuked for using world organisation's name in ad campaigns against the ‘pesti-cola’ controver

New Delhi: Coca-Cola won a case against the Kerala High Court on Friday, but its troubles are not over.

The World Health Organisation has snubbed the cola giant for ‘unauthorisedly’ using its name in its promotional campaigns. In a major print advertisement campaign between August 13 and 18 to counter the charges of pesticide content in the soft drink, a Coca-Cola India's promotional ad claims: “Our products across the world follow a single system and undergo rigorous multiple barrier filtration process that is approved by WHO.”

They claim the cola drinks in circulation in the country are absolutely safe and meet the strictest of safety norms.

WHO shot back at the cola giant with a warning to "immediately stop making any references to the organisation" in its advertisements, products, communications, business cards or any other written or published material.

While Coca-Cola India denied that the reference to WHO was made to promote or advertise the company or products or to make a commercial gain, it did promptly stop the promotional campaign. The cola giant claimed "the bona-fide reference to the WHO was made in reference to the multiple barrier filtration process and Cola does use the process water in the manufacture of its beverages.”

Interestingly, the cola giant has also been claiming that a government laboratory in UK had tested its products against the most stringent pesticide norms used for bottled water in Europe and found the products absolutely safe for human consumption.
