CM Punk has finally revealed how he was feeling after his internet-breaking return to WWE at Survivor Series 2023. While speaking during a WWE Preview show on Peacock, Punk gave an exclusive interview about the day he came back to his former company.
As per several media outlets, this is what he said – “Everything happened that day so fast…I was trying to drive to the Allstate Arena and let everybody…know what was about to happen.” Punk also talked about how he wanted to keep everything under wraps so that the ‘magic’ could happen the way it was meant to be. “It was a magical moment…I had questions, concerns, maybe even worries. It was all solved the instant the song hit and I walked out in front of my hometown…I couldn’t hear the song, I could only hear the people. It was a magic moment”, Punk concluded.
CM Punk’s storied return comes at the back of an ugly departure from the company back in 2014. Back then he had some altercations with the then-WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. Following his exit, Punk remained off the pro wrestling circuit for seven years before finally making a return with All Elite Wrestling (AEW) in 2021. However, within a couple of years of his return, the former WWE champ was released from his contract after a disciplinary investigation. It had come to the surface that Punk was involved in a backstage brawl with fellow AEW wrestler Jack Perry at a live AEW event in Wembley Stadium. This led to the AEW’s discipline committee making a unanimous recommendation to AEW President Tony Khan that Punk’s contract should be terminated with cause.
CM Punk’s departure from the AEW sparked a ton of rumours about his potential return to the WWE. Gradually the rumours had subsided and it was revealed that Punk wasn’t working towards signing for his previous company. Later, WWE action moved to Illinois as the 2023 Survivor Series event was being hosted in the city of Chicago on November 25. Punk had remained relatively silent about the ongoing rumours but his appearance at the WWE pay-per-view confirmed all the speculations. After almost a decade he walked out of the entrance towards the aile amidst a thunderous reception from his home crowd.
In the RAW episode following Survivor Series 2023, Punk addressed the WWE Universe and talked about his unexpected return. He still hasn’t competed in a wrestling ring for the WWE yet. Punk was also absent from this year’s first episode of RAW. However, the company has advertised heavily that the ‘Cult of Personality’ will be there in Portland on January 8th. He has also been announced as one of the contestants who will be participating in the men’s Royal Rumble match on January 28 this year. He is also amongst the favourites to win that match and headline WrestleMania 40.
