New Delhi: There seems to be no end in sight to Indians being attacked in Australia. On Friday night another Indian taxi driver was assaulted near Melbourne forcing the police to finally acknowledge some Australians are indeed racist.

"We have got murderers and rapists, but for a developed country, less than our share. We've got less than our share of racists, but we have got them. The more we can be accurate in our discussion... the more likely we are to be able to focus on that small element of society and prosecute it," Victoria Police Deputy Commissioner Ken Jones was quoted in The Australian.

Ken Jones admission came on the day when a Melbourne pub denied entry to three Indians and a Nepalese.

No reason was given for denying them entry although the pub did carry a sign warning that people could be turned away without citing any reason.

On the same day in the Melbourne suburb of Ballarat another Indian taxi driver was abused and beaten up by four men aged between 16 to 18 years.

Police claimed they had a fair idea who the attackers were but also insisted it was not a racial attack.

Clearly, sections of the Melbourne police remain in denial about the nature of attacks on Indians.

But some Indians in Australia also believe that many of their fellow citizens lack civic consciousness and flaunt gold chains and rings making them easily identifiable targets for criminal elements.

What's your reaction?
