WWE is set to kick off the new year with a blast. The American wrestling company is gearing up to hold the 37th edition of the Royal Rumble, which marks the first major pay-per-view event of 2024. Fans are eagerly waiting for January 27 when several male and female superstars will compete in the annual Rumble matches at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.
The battle of each category will feature a total of 30 wrestlers, who will step into the ring one after another every ninety seconds. It is an all-out fight, with every participant trying to eliminate their opponents to become the ultimate survivor. The winners of the Royal Rumble matches will earn an opportunity to feature in championship clashes at the upcoming WrestleMania.
While WWE is yet to confirm the final line up for the Royal Rumble, the event may see the return of several superstars. According to a report by Pwinsider, Liv Morgan, who has been out of wrestling since last summer due to an injury, is expected to feature in the female match.
Before disappearing from the company’s roster, Morgan was last seen in action in an episode of Monday Night RAW on July 17, 2023, where she and Raquel Rodriguez put the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship on the line. The duo ended up losing the title to the pair of Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville.
Apart from Morgan, the female Rumble match may also feature Naomi, who is currently contracted with TNA Wrestling. She is expected to end her tie with the Nashville-based company this month before making a comeback to the WWE. Naomi aka Trinity Fatu turned her back on WWE in May 2022 following a dispute with chairman Vince McMahon.
WWE Hall of Famer Sean Waltman is also anticipated to feature at the Royal Rumble. The 51-year-old was recently seen at the Performance Centre, sparking rumours of his participation at the upcoming pay-per-view event.
Cody Rhodes won the men’s Royal Rumble match last year. Following the dominant victory, Rhodes challenged WWE Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 but failed to clinch the title. Meanwhile, the female Rumble match in 2023 saw Rhea Ripley emerge victorious. She later faced off against Charlotte Flair for the WWE women’s SmackDown championship and claimed the title.
