Steve Borden aka Sting wrapped up his decorated wrestling career at AEW Revolution on Saturday, March 3.

In his retirement match, Sting successfully retained the World Tag Team Championship along with his partner Darby Allin. The duo got the better of The Young Bucks featuring Matthew and Nicholas Jackson at the pay-per-view event. While giving his farewell speech at the Greensboro Coliseum in North California, Sting looked quite overwhelmed as he thanked the crowd, his fans as well as the AEW.

Darby Allin was the one who first picked up the mic after the Tag Team match ended. He asked the crowd to give Sting a huge round of applause before the Icon took centre stage. The 64-year-old went on to reminisce about his early days in the wrestling circuit, referring to his first-ever match with Ric Flair that ended in a draw.

Speaking about his retirement match, Sting said that he wanted to make the occasion memorable and come up with something that would always be remembered. Sting further highlighted the contribution of Darby Allin in his career and thanked his tag-team partner in a heartwarming gesture. The 31-year-old demonstrated his commitment in the title clash against The Young Bucks as well.

During the fight, Allin sustained a horrific injury on his back and the wound seemed quite deep. Referring to the injury, Sting said, “I wonder how many stitches Darby will require due to this.” That’s when Darby took the mic and said, “I said I would die in your last match, but I’m still breathing” and his comments received loud cheers from the fans.

When Sting was addressing the crowd, his speech was suddenly cut off as the broadcasting allotment time was reached. The AEW later dropped the off-air part on X (formerly Twitter).

Sting later requested his sons to join him in the ring and expressed his feelings about sharing the moment with his family members. He also made sure to thank AEW chief Tony Khan as well as some Hall of Famers who were present at the ringside.
