Kids Toss Glass Alcohol Bottles from 32nd Floor of New York Hotel, Injure Woman Below, Cause Shutdown
Two children, below 12 years of age, who were staying with their parents at an upscale hotel threw alcohol bottles on the street leading many to fear that those were gunshots.

Two youngsters threw glass bottles of alcohol from the 32nd floor of a hotel near New York’s Times Square on Friday (local time) and injured a woman below. Their actions also led to a temporary shutdown of the street below, according to a report by the New York Post.

People present at that time in Times Square’s West 44th Street were panicked as some mistook the loud bang of glass bottles crashing on the ground to be gunfire. “I can understand why people thought it was gunshots. When something falls 32 stories and hits the ground it will make a loud noise,” a law enforcement official told the newspaper.

A 12-year-old and at least one other child who were staying with their parents at the InterContinental New York Times Square hotel on West 44th Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues were the culprits who pulled the dangerous stunt, people mentioned above said.

The children threw ‘glass shooters’ also known as shot glasses from the 12th floor of the hotel they were staying. Shot glasses are small glasses designed to hold and measure liquor, commonly known as a “shot”.

A 24-year-old woman was injured, suffering a cut to her head and was rushed to the hospital and is now in a stable situation.

As police investigated the case, West 44th Street was temporarily closed. “It sounded like an explosion or gunshots,” one passerby told an officer, the newspaper said. Police are yet to file any charges related to the incident.

Meanwhile, New York City mayor Eric Adams said that there are “no credible threats” to the annual New Year’s Eve bash. The mayor said that the New York Police Department (NYPD) will be out in full force, along with its hundreds of new recruits.

“We will be out here with our canines, on horseback, our helicopters, our boats. The full complement of our public safety apparatus will be on display. The entire team over at intel, they are monitoring the usual chatter and as Chief Jeff Maddrey said, there are no specific threats to the city,” Adams was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
