London: A 14-year-old Asian boy in the UK on Thursday stabbed his teacher at a school in northern England, prompting police to launch a hunt for him.

The 50-year-old teacher was taken to hospital from the Dixons Kings Academy in Bradford, after he was attacked with a knife in the school on Thursday morning. His condition has been described as stable.

The teenager is described as Asian with short dark hair and West Yorkshire Police said he was last seen wearing a blue uniform blazer.

The city of Bradford has a large concentration of Pakistani-origin families but the exact origin of the boy is not known yet.

Detective Superintendent Simon Atkinson, of West Yorkshire Police's homicide and major enquiry team, described the stabbing as a "very serious incident".

He said: "At this stage we do not believe there is an ongoing risk to pupils or staff at the school. The rest of the school is continuing to operate as normal and local officers are currently liaising closely with the staff.

"We are also working closely with our partners in the local authorities to investigate the full circumstances of this incident, which will be the subject of a thorough investigation."

In a statement on its website, the school said: "There has been an incident at Dixons Kings Academy this morning. The police and the academy are working together to investigate the incident."

UK education secretary Nicky Morgan said her thoughts are with the injured teacher, adding that her officials are in touch with the school and are "ready and prepared to offer all necessary support".
