Recently, a viral video of a woman preparing kajal at home following her Grandmother’s traditional method has emerged online. The traditional method of preparing kajal at home has collected above 7 million views.

The video shows a woman in a traditional outfit applying homemade kajal with the help of a matchstick. As the video progresses, the woman shows the process of making kajal at home with her Grandmother. She uses some bricks to place a plate and pour a good amount of ghee into a bowl. She adds a thick cotton wick to the bowl and lights the flame. She places a plate over the flame. After some time, a black layer of kohl can be seen on the plate. The woman scratches the kajal from the plate and collects it in a spoon. Later, she applies it with the help of a matchstick. This viral clip was shared on an Instagram account @pooja_vegesna. The user wrote a long caption sharing, “I’m allergic to waterproof mascara and Kajal and I’ve been using homemade Kajal since then!” She also shared the way to store this homemade kajal, “You can use this Kajal for more than 8 years once you make it. So it’s worth trying. You have to store the powder and mix it with ghee to make a small ball and put it on a wooden stick. Enjoy!”
