Wildlife Enthusiast Narrates Horrifying Encounter With Elephants
A wildlife enthusiast from Kochi and her fellow travellers faced a dramatic encounter with a herd of elephants.

Being a traveller and a wildlife photographer sounds like a very lucrative idea as one gets to travel while witnessing the rare and authentic beauty of nature, including flora and fauna. However, in reality, it might not be as rosy as it sounds. While there is a lot of excitement and fun, there are several challenges too like the one this woman from Kerala faced. Ammu Visakh, a traveler and wildlife enthusiast hailing from Kochi, recently found herself in a dangerous situation during a forest expedition. Ammu, along with her fellow travellers, faced a dramatic encounter with a herd of elephants who crossed their path.

Taking to her Instagram account, Ammu narrated the whole incident and uploaded several videos. In her caption, she called it “one of the scariest moments they had while travelling.”

In one of her posts, Ammu recounted being the first to reach the forest check post at 6 am from Vazhachal Checkpost. At around 7 am, she was crossing a narrow forest road as a herd of elephants emerged right in front of their vehicle. Tensions escalated as the majestic creatures began wreaking havoc on a car parked nearby, tossing its front bumper dangerously close to Ammu’s own vehicle.

However, she says that some divine intervention arrived in the form of two lorries that strategically placed themselves in front of Ammu, creating a lifeline for her through the situation. Deeply grateful, Ammu expressed respect for the brave lorry drivers navigating these challenging forest routes daily.

Sharing a closer look at the aftermath, Ammu shared another glimpse of the attacked car and its displaced bumper. Further exploration revealed that the unfortunate vehicle had fallen victim to a breakdown the night before, abandoned by its owner and eventually succumbing to the elephants’ destruction.

“The owner had left it there which the elephants came and destroyed by the time we came,” she explained.

Ammu, in a reflective moment, also shared her personal reactions to the heart-stopping encounter, moments of genuine fear captured in the footage. She mentioned that the elephants’ trumpeting echoed through the forest, emphasising the gravity of the situation.

“This is what actually happened…You can see me scared to my wits and the loud trumpet of the elephants at last,” she wrote.
