In the clip, Joy Bhattacharjya is in conversation with cricket presenter Gaurav Kapur when he explains what makes Dhoni special. Bhattacharjya, who co-authored the book ‘Do Different: The Untold Dhoni’, said that the former India captain would make the best out of a situation with his quick thinking and come up with the best results regardless of the line-up chosen by the selectors.
Virat Kohli said that MS Dhoni is credited with raising the standard and respect for Indian cricket in the world. KL Rahul also praised Dhoni and said that no cricketer in the Indian team would want to compare himself against a figure like ‘The Thala’. He added that when one thinks of a captain, the person automatically thinks of Dhoni.
Back in 2021, in an interview with Forbes India, KL Rahul spoke about playing under Dhoni and said, “Yes, he has won a lot of tournaments, done amazing things for the country but I think the biggest achievement that as captain you can have is the respect of your teammates and any of us would take a bullet for him without a second thought.” He added, “The minute anybody says captain, the first name that comes to mind from our era will be MS Dhoni. We have all played under him. Something I have learned from him is how humble he has been through ups and downs, how he has put his country ahead of everything is just unbelievable.”
In his career, MS Dhoni captained the Indian team in 332 matches including 200 ODIs. Dhoni played his first international match in 2004 and after 16 years, announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15, 2020.
