It was an emotional yet heartwarming moment for fans on Sunday as the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) took a lap of honour around the MA Chidambaram Stadium, paying their gratitude to fans after their last home game in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. While a social media post from the franchise left all CSK fans intrigued ahead of the crucial match against the Rajasthan Royals, they were later treated to a pleasant surprise. MS Dhoni and his teammates gave away signed balls to fans after registering their 50th home win at the venue.

During the lap of honour, the fans’ love for Dhoni again became evident as chants of his name echoed across the stadium. The star player hit some signed tennis balls into the crowd, leaving the crowd cheering.

A picture of the same was shared by CSK’s official Instagram handle with the caption, “Thala’s return gift for the fans!” Many other videos are also going viral on the internet, showing fans cheering and applauding for Dhoni while he continues hitting balls toward them.

Following the special surprise announcement by CSK, fans were left wondering whether it could be an announcement regarding MS Dhoni’s future. Many urged the franchise to “not break their hearts.”

During the lap of honour, a heartwarming reunion of Dhoni and Suresh Raina, a former CSK player, made the moment even more special. The two shared a warm hug, following which MS Dhoni asked Raina to hit a few balls into the venue. Raina is a part of the commentary team at IPL 2024 and was present at the venue to carry out his duties.

CSK’s high hopes for IPL playoffs

After beating Rajasthan Royals in its last IPL 2024 on Sunday, Chennai Super Kings has now inched another step closer to making it to the playoffs. With its 7th win in the tournament so far, CSK now stands in the third position on the points table.

The team presently has one game left against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, which will decide its fate. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow Super Giants are also in the hunt to make it to the top four. So far, Kolkata Knight Riders have already qualified for the playoffs.
