Watch: Man Recounts Near-death Experience After Injury From A Granite Sheet
People thought he was dead but he was lucky to be alive.

Life is not predictable. Anything can happen at any moment in time. A similar incident happened with a US man that changed his life. The man was helping his friend in his granite business. He was lifting and placing heavy sheets of granite when suddenly several sheets fell on him at once.

The sheets are said to weigh more than 4500 kg, fell directly on his face and he got stuck in between them. In this horrible accident, his face was completely disfigured. This story is about a person named Mike Wolo, a resident of Massachusetts. In the year 2003, Mike became the victim of a very dangerous accident. He was standing in a container and removing granite sheets along with others. Then several sheets fell on him simultaneously, his face got stuck between the sheets and his bones broke.

He suffered terrible wounds on his face and stopped breathing for 5 minutes. People thought he was dead but he was lucky to be alive. According to the reports from the Unilad, Mike said, “It was all sideways. My eye was down below my chin, my jaw ripped off and broke in three… They said the top of my head looked like a huge mushroom ready to explode out from the top of the granite.”

Later, he said that he was dead for about five minutes but regained consciousness after he had a dream-like experience in which he saw a friend who’d passed away a few months earlier.

He said, “So I don’t remember anything from the point of impact. [Then] all of a sudden, there’s my friend in front of me. And he’s talking to me saying, ‘Hey, you’re not supposed to be here. You’re gonna be fine. If you get a chance, check-in and see if my family is OK. You’re gonna be OK. And then I wake up.”

He was immediately admitted to a hospital in Boston. He underwent plastic surgery after a week and his face was reconstructed with 110 screws and 20 titanium plates. Mike then returned home after about 32 days. He faced many types of mental disorders and had difficulty walking and laughing. But despite the challenges, his willpower saved his life.

“Looking at myself in the mirror for the first time after the accident – what I would have given to have my old face back. But you know what? I had an amazing doctor and life’s good,” he added.
