Vijay Salgaonkar Memes are Back on Gandhi Jayanti: 'Yaad Hai Na 2 October?'
“Gandhi Jayanti aside, for true cinema lovers, October 2 [since 2015] means Panaji Satsang, Pav Bhaji, and Vijay Salgaonkar,” wrote a user on X, referring to Drishyam.

It is October 2 and the Internet is filled with the question, “Yaad hai na 2 October ko kya hua tha?” Well, this date holds the weight of three major events. A, it’s Mahatma Gandhi’s Jayanti, a day of national reverence. B, it’s the birthday of former Prime Minister of India Lal Bahadur Shastri. And C – Bollywood buffs remember it by heart – it’s the day Vijay Salgaonkar and his family outwitted everyone.

For those unversed, here’s a little backstory. On this very day in Drishyam in 2015, the protagonist, Vijay Salgaonkar (played by Ajay Devgn), and his family travel down to Panaji in a bus to attend a Satsang, eat Pav Bhaji for lunch, and return home the next day – October 3. While Salgaonkar has bus tickets, film tickets, and restaurant bills to substantiate his claim of travelling down to the Goan capital, he repeatedly recounts the events of this day to different characters in the film.

This became fodder for memes and every year, without fail, the Internet is flooded with Salgaonkar’s iconic dialogue. And this year is no different. Social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) is filled with Salgaonkar memes.

An individual shared a picture of Salgaonkar, his wife and two daughters with the caption, “Aaj 2 October hai yaad hai hai na….”

“Gandhi Jayanti aside, for true cinema lovers, October 2 now means Panaji Satsang, Pav Bhaji, and Vijay Salgaonkar,” said yet another X user.

Here’s what this woman wrote on X with the hashtag “2ndOctober”:

This Internet user perfectly outlined what “October 2” stands for “kids, adults, and legends”:

Uday Shetty and Vijay Salgaonkar in a single post – a collab we didn’t know we needed.

And before wrapping it up, let us hear the iconic dialogue from the man himself.

Whether you’re a fan of Drishyam and Drishyam 2 or have yet to experience the thrill, there’s no better day than October 2 to witness the drama unfold. So, grab your rectangular slabs, laptops or TV remotes and indulge in a binge-watch session. This time, maybe, enjoy a plate of delicious Pav Bhaji.
