UK Woman Discovers Milan Is Cheaper Than London: 'Way More Appealing'
While a round trip train ticket from Manchester to London would have cost her over Rs 10,000, her trip to Milan was cheaper.

Traveling abroad can be expensive, but one cautious traveller found a budget friendly way to visit Milan. Dagmara Kedzierska from Manchester, UK, managed to fly to the Italian city for just £50 (approximately Rs 5000). The woman revealed that she enjoyed local delights like pizza and Aperol spritz, for which she spent less than she would have paid for a day out in London. Tired of high costs for trains and accommodation within the UK, Kedzierska chose Milan. While a round trip train ticket from Manchester to London would have cost over £100 (approximately Rs 10,000), her trip to a peaceful European town was a cheaper option. According to Metro, as a regular traveller, the woman said she always makes good use of her annual leaves.

As per reports, she first landed in Milan at 10:50 AM and kicked off her day with coffee and a warm croissant. Next, she took a £6 (approximately Rs 600) train to Varenna to visit the stunning Lake Como, where she enjoyed local pizza and Aperol spritz. After spending peaceful time near the lake, she returned to the main city by taking another £6 (approximately Rs 600) train and a £2 (approximately Rs 200) metro train ride to see the famous Duomo Cathedral. Following her sightseeing, she took the metro back to the station and caught an £11 (approximately Rs 1000) train for Malpensa airport. After an adventurous day, Kedzierska reached her home town at 1 AM, all while keeping her costs low.

Speaking to the portal, Dagmara Kedzierska shared, “The day trips abroad are way more appealing, as most of the time they work out cheaper than staying in the UK. My Milan trip cost me less than £200 (approximately Rs 21,000) including the flights, transport, food and drinks. The weather abroad is also more likely to be better than here, I live in Manchester and the weather lately hasn’t been the greatest. Travelling abroad, even if it’s only for one day, gets me in a holiday mood.”

“I have done a few day trips abroad for one day and it allows me to go back to work the next day without taking any time off. I also love food and travelling abroad even for one day lets me try new foods. The restaurants in the UK are very basic and most of the time you will eat pre cooked pasta or prebaked pizza,” she added.

Travel blogger Nele van Hout, who managed to complete a Milan trip for under £193.50 (approximately Rs 20,000), shared that visiting the Italian town on a budget is possible while still having an amazing experience. She mentioned that there are plenty of free activities to do, like one can go window shopping at Galleria Vittorio Emanuele or view parts of Castello Sforzesco without spending much. Simply exploring the city and admiring its architecture can be a wonderful experience on a budget.
