This Video From 1955 Shows The Devastating Effects of Rabies

Rabies is transmitted to humans through animal bites, and there is currently no known cure for it. Once a person contacts rabies, saving them becomes impossible, and the progression of the disease towards a life-threatening state is particularly frightening.

Rabies, a perilous disease, impacts the nervous system of those it afflicts, often resulting from dog bites in humans. Immediate administration of an injection after a dog bite can prevent rabies, but once the disease sets in, escaping its grasp becomes not just difficult but impossible. A video circulating on social media depicts an infection that struck an individual in Iran 68 years ago, underscoring why this disease is rightfully labelled as fatal.

The video surfaced on Instagram through an account called views addict, quickly gaining viral traction. Beyond Instagram, it spread across platforms like X and Facebook. The footage captures the deterioration of an individual’s health after contracting rabies from a wolf bite, providing a visual account of the progression of the disease.

As per the assertion, the video dates back to 1955, depicting an individual with a visible animal bite mark on their forehead. Following admission to the hospital, a gradual deterioration in health occurred, marked by an inability to drink water and difficulties in breathing while eating. It’s noteworthy that throughout history, only 29 individuals have reportedly survived rabies. This disease entails a loss of muscle control and often manifests symptoms such as speech difficulties.

The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) under the Union Health Ministry has established a panel to explore the possibility of introducing pre-exposure prophylaxis or vaccination against rabies for children. This move comes in response to increasing incidents of dog bites in several states. Notably, it marks the first instance, according to reliable government sources, of the Centre taking steps to incorporate pre-exposure rabies vaccination into the nationwide Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP).
