The Rail Madad application by Indian Railways serves as a platform for passengers to address their grievances regarding service delivery. Users can easily file complaints against any shortcomings in the services provided. However, a recent post by a passenger claimed that his complaint via the app resulted in disciplinary action against a railway official and train attendant, leading to their salary cut.
In his post, a Reddit user shared his initial experience using the Rail Madad app during a train journey. He recounted how he filed a complaint through the app after not receiving a pillow, only to later find out that another passenger had taken an extra pillow, and the attendant was not at fault. However, he learned that as a consequence of his complaint, both the railway official and the attendant faced penalties in the form of a salary cut.
“Today I tried the rail madad app for the first time while travelling in a train. I had complaint for not getting a pillow. It was later known that a fellow passenger had taken double pillow and it was not the fault of the attendant. Now, the attendant and railway official have informed me that now they will be penalised in form of a salary cut,” he wrote on Reddit.
Expressing regret, he apologised for unknowingly causing severe consequences and advised others to first communicate with the attendant before filing a complaint on the Rail Madad app.
“I immediately apologised as I didn’t know that this could result in such severe measure for them. I would want people to first cross-check with the attendant for any issue you might be facing before using the rail madad app. Keep it as a last option,” he added.

As the user grappled with regret over his complaint, many online users speculated that the railway official and the attendant might have been trying to make him feel guilty so he wouldn’t complain in the future.
One user remarked, “They are giving you a guilt trip. The salary won’t be deducted but they should resolve the complaint otherwise their head will be liable to answer to authorities.”

Another chimed in, “The attendant is making sure that you feel guilty enough so that you won’t trouble him for anything else during your travel and he can laze around more.”

Yet, one comment stated, “They won’t cut any salary. You were being guilt-tripped. The attendants are supposed to hand you your pillow and fresh sheets when you board.”

Someone added, “Salary cuts nahi hoti bhai (Salary cuts doesn’t happen brother). It’s a government job.”
