Pankaj Tripathi Would Have Missed Out on National Award for 'Mimi', Reveals Reason in Reddit AMA
Did you know Pankaj Tripathi could've missed National Award for 'Mimi'? Here's the reason he revealed in his recent 'AMA' session.

Pankaj Tripathi, who effortlessly commands the film industry with just a subtle nod, stands out as an actor whose craft resonates louder than mere words. Whether gracing the silver screen or captivating audiences on an OTT series, the actor’s minimalist yet profoundly impactful performances have garnered him numerous accolades, including two National Film Awards—one for ‘Newton’ and another for ‘Mimi.’ Surprisingly, the latter triumph almost slipped through his fingers, not due to fierce competition, but owing to an unexpected revelation shared in his recent ‘Ask Me Anything’ (AMA) session on Reddit.

In response to a curious user asking, “Sir was there a script you didn’t like before, but you changed your mind?” Tripathi candidly confessed, “Yes, that film was Mimi. And I got a National Award for the same film.” He went on to express, “Ab lagta hai ki chhod deta toh malaal hota (Now I feel that had I let it go, I would have regretted it).” Who would have guessed that the actor, initially hesitant about the 2021 film, would not only ace it but also bag the National Award for ‘Best Supporting Actor’?

However, this revelation was just a glimpse into the captivating insights shared during his AMA session held on Friday, January 19th, coinciding with the release of his movie ‘Main Atal Hoon,’ where he embodies the role of the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. When probed about future projects, Tripathi teased, “3-4 mahine ki chutti lene wala hoon. Kisi ko batana mat. Actually, I am planning to do theatre (I’m planning to take a break for 3-4 months. Don’t tell anyone. Actually, I am planning to do theatre).”

Adding more layers to his persona, Tripathi reminisced about his initial foray into acting during the Chhat festival in his village. He shared, “During my childhood, there was a play at my village’s Chhat festival where I played a female character. I was quite nervous.” Little did he know that stepping out of his comfort zone during those early days would foreshadow his willingness to challenge norms, as evidenced by his varied roles today.

As for ‘Main Atal Hoon,’ starring Pankaj Tripathi in the titular role and helmed by National Award-winning director Ravi Jadhav, the film transcends typical patriotic narratives. Instead, it authentically portrays Atal’s multi-faceted journey, from his passion for poetry to studying law, and journalism, and eventually becoming a political luminary. Tripathi’s flawless portrayal breathes life into Atal’s legacy, capturing the essence of his rise with conviction and confidence on the big screen.
